Objectives:

Introduction to the basic numerical techniques used to solve ordinary differential equations and partial derivatives.

Knowledge:

• Integration methods for the initial value problem.
• Methods of continuation of invariant objects.
• Boundary value problems and proper values.
• Finite differences: explicit and implicit discretization.
• Variant and finite-element methods.

Subject-specific competences:

• To be able to choose an adequate integration method for a given problem.
• To be able to integrate an equation and interpret the results; to determine invariant objects: fixed points, periodical orbits, invariant varieties.
