Entry/Admission

Admission and selection criteria; evaluation of prior qualifications

A maximum of thirty students will be admitted each new academic year.

Graduates in mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology, biology, computers or engineering, or holders of recognized equivalent qualifications may be admitted to the masters program.

Other graduates and diploma holders (those who have completed a first cycle university degree) may also be admitted to the course if accepted by the coordination committee. This committee will study candidates' academic records before deciding whether to offer them places on the course.

In exceptional cases, students who have obtained a minimum of 180 first cycle credits may also be admitted, provided that these credits correspond to the core contents of an undergraduate degree, and provided that the student's academic record is considered suitable. If the 180 credits correspond to subjects from the mathematics degree, the student will be accepted automatically.

Holders of foreign degrees that permit to follow postgraduate studies but which have not been approved by the Ministry of Education and Science will be admitted to the master program by special authorization from the Rector, or the person he delegates, if the Comissió de Coordinació del POP of the Faculty of Mathematics issues a report recommending acceptance of the application. This authorization will only be valid for the master studies. Students can submit their application to access together with the relevant documents at the secretary of the Faculty of Mathematics. This application must be addressed to Coordinador del POP of the Faculty of Mathematics and may be submitted at any time of the year. Detailed information about the procedure may be found here.

On obtaining authorization from the rector, students must follow the standard admission procedure to obtain a place in the master program.

If the number of applications exceeds the number of places available, the coordination committee will select students according to their academic record, CV, and a personal letter explaining their reasons for applying for a place the course. If necessary, students may be called for interview. Knowledge of English and computer literacy will be valued.

Criteria for evaluating students' prior studies

Graduates who have studied the mathematics syllabus at a Spanish university will be granted 60 credits in bridging subjects.

In the case of other students admitted, the coordination committee will determine the number of credits that they must obtain, after evaluating their previous studies.

The evaluation of students' prior studies will be made at the start of the course.
